I've got a Samsung S10e with Android 11, I had to go to the main menu -> "Apps" section, find Android Auto in the apps list, go to "Battery" and select "Optimize Battery Usage" there. I was able to turn off optimization like described above. I just stumbled across this post after a year of this issue happening
